Ha-young Withdraws From The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call Season 2 Following Controversy

Ha-young will no longer appear in the upcoming second season of Netflix’s hit medical series “The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call.”

According to a report from MyDaily published on September 1, Ha-young has decided to withdraw from the upcoming season ahead of filming, which is scheduled to begin in October. The report states that the actress personally communicated her decision to the production team. Netflix has since confirmed that she will not appear in the sequel and that the company respects the actress’s decision.

Ha-young Will Not Return as Chun Jang-mi

Ha-young previously appeared in the first season as Chun Jang-mi, a senior nurse who was part of the trauma team led by Baek Kang-hyuk, played by Ju Ji-hoon.

She had initially been expected to return for the upcoming seasons alongside the original cast. However, her participation became uncertain following controversy surrounding her great-grandfather's activities during the Japanese colonial period.

Just days before the latest development, reports had indicated that Ha-young would remain with the series despite the controversy. Those reports have now been superseded by the actress's withdrawal and Netflix's subsequent confirmation.

Netflix Confirms Her Departure

Netflix confirmed on September 1 that Ha-young will not participate in the follow-up series, stating that the company respects the actress's position.

The confirmation follows MyDaily's report that Ha-young had informed the production team that she would not be able to continue with the series. This makes her departure official ahead of the planned October production start.

The development comes after controversy surrounding Ha-young's great-grandfather, Ahn Sang-ho, whose activities during the Japanese colonial period came under scrutiny.

The controversy began after Ha-young discussed her family's medical history in a television appearance, including her great-grandfather. Historical records concerning Ahn Sang-ho subsequently drew attention, prompting both her agency and Ha-young herself to issue apologies.

Ha-young later published a handwritten apology acknowledging that she had spoken about her great-grandfather based on incomplete family accounts and that she had failed to properly understand the historical context.

What Happens to “The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call”?

“The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call” became a major success following the release of its first season, which follows brilliant trauma surgeon Baek Kang-hyuk as he attempts to rebuild an underperforming trauma team.

Netflix had been preparing the next installment, with Seasons 2 and 3 reportedly being developed and filming scheduled to begin in October. The original cast had been expected to continue, including Ju Ji-hoon, Choo Young-woo, and Yoon Kyung-ho.

With Ha-young now officially departing, the production will move forward without Chun Jang-mi.

Ha-young's Other Upcoming Drama Remains Uncertain

Ha-young's departure from “The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call” is not the only project affected by the controversy.

She is also part of the SBS drama “We Have a Winning Hand” (working title), which had reportedly been nearing the end of filming. MyDaily reports that production was continuing at the time of its report, while SBS had not yet made a final decision regarding the drama's scheduling and how the controversy would affect its release.

For now, the future of that project remains uncertain.
