YoonA to Play a Forensic Doctor in New tvN Mystery Drama ‘Unnatural’
YoonA is entering the world of forensic medicine.
Girls’ Generation’s YoonA has officially joined tvN’s upcoming mystery medical drama ‘Unnatural’ (언내추럴, working title), where she will play a forensic doctor investigating the secrets hidden behind unexplained deaths.
The drama is scheduled to premiere in 2027 and is being produced by Studio Dragon and Big Wave Entertainment.
YoonA Becomes a Forensic Doctor
YoonA will portray Song Do Eun, a forensic doctor working at U.D.I., a fictional autopsy and forensic examination center affiliated with Korea’s National Forensic Service.
At first glance, Do Eun appears calm and cold, but beneath that composed exterior lies a deeply compassionate and persistent person.
No matter what condition a body arrives in, she refuses to be shaken. Instead, she carefully examines every detail, determined to uncover the truth behind each unexplained death.
She Listens to the Dead
What makes Song Do Eun particularly interesting is that her determination isn't simply about solving cases.
She believes that every victim has a final story worth hearing.
Even the smallest trace left behind by someone who has died can become an important clue, and Do Eun refuses to overlook those details.
Her work allows the drama to explore both sides of forensic medicine: the cold precision required to examine a body and the human compassion needed to understand the person behind it.
That contrast will also allow YoonA to show a different side of her acting, balancing Do Eun’s sharp investigative instincts with the quieter emotions she carries beneath the surface.
A Mystery Hidden Behind “Unnatural” Deaths
Unnatural is described as a mystery medical drama centered on forensic doctors working at U.D.I as they investigate deaths that appear unnatural or whose causes remain unclear.
Each case will lead them toward the hidden circumstances surrounding the victim’s final moments, gradually revealing the truth behind seemingly unexplained deaths.
The series is written by Min Ji Eun and directed by Park Yoo Young, with Studio Dragon and Big Wave Entertainment handling production.
The drama is also a Korean remake of the popular Japanese series Unnatural, which originally aired on TBS in 2018.
A New Challenge for YoonA
The role marks a notable change for YoonA, who will step into a character defined by forensic expertise, emotional restraint and an almost obsessive determination to uncover the truth.
The production team said YoonA’s warm and bright energy will meet Song Do Eun’s strong convictions and humanity, creating a different side of the actress through the character.
Casting reports previously indicated that Lee Jin Wook was positively considering an appearance in the drama, although his casting was not part of today's official announcement.
When Does ‘Unnatural’ Premiere?
‘Unnatural’ is scheduled to premiere on tvN in 2027.
The series currently remains under the working title Unnatural, so its final international title and exact premiere date have not yet been announced.
With YoonA now confirmed as its lead, the drama will follow Song Do Eun as she listens to the last traces left by the dead and searches for the truth hidden behind unexplained deaths.
