'The Second Signal' Reportedly Targets November Premiere as tvN Responds to Scheduling Reports

Reports claim the long-awaited sequel to Signal has finally secured a broadcast date, but tvN says nothing has been finalized.
'The Second Signal' Reportedly Eyes November Release
After months of uncertainty, new reports claim that tvN's highly anticipated drama The Second Signal has been scheduled to premiere on November 30 as the network's new Monday-Tuesday drama.
According to Korean media outlet MyDaily, the sequel will consist of eight episodes and air through December 22, with the production team already preparing for its release. The report also states that actor Cho Jin Woong will appear in the series without any edits to his scenes.
tvN Responds: "Nothing Has Been Finalized"
Shortly after the report gained attention, tvN issued an official response, stating that the broadcast schedule has not yet been confirmed.
The network declined to verify the reported premiere date or whether the final version of the drama would include Cho Jin Woong's scenes without edits, emphasizing that discussions are still ongoing.
A Long-Awaited Sequel
The Second Signal marks the return of one of Korea's most acclaimed crime thrillers, arriving 10 years after the original Signal premiered in 2016.
The original drama followed detectives from different time periods who communicate through a mysterious walkie-talkie to solve long-unsolved cold cases. It became both a critical and commercial success, with its finale recording 13.4% nationwide viewership according to Nielsen Korea.
The sequel reunites writer Kim Eun Hee with lead actors Lee Je Hoon, Kim Hye Soo, and Cho Jin Woong, making it one of the most anticipated Korean dramas in recent years.
Why the Drama Was Delayed
The series had originally been expected to air as part of tvN's 20th anniversary lineup, but its release was postponed following controversy involving lead actor Cho Jin Woong.
Although filming had already wrapped in August 2025, reports regarding the actor's juvenile criminal record surfaced before the drama's planned release, leading to uncertainty over the project's future.
According to MyDaily, the production team reportedly considered multiple options—including AI technology and extensive editing—but ultimately decided to retain Cho Jin Woong's performance in the reported broadcast version. However, tvN has not officially confirmed those claims.
Fans Continue Waiting for Official Confirmation
While the latest reports suggest that The Second Signal could finally make its long-awaited debut later this year, viewers will have to wait for an official announcement from tvN before a premiere date is confirmed.
For now, the network maintains that all scheduling details remain under review, leaving fans eager for further updates on one of Korean television's most anticipated sequels.
