Biography

She rose to fame in her home country for starring in Joint Security Area, one of the first films by cult director Park Chan-wook, which became a critical and commercial success for its humane and ideology-free approach to the inter-Korean conflict. His popularity was later enhanced by his starring roles in Korean dramas such as Iris and All In. She gained international recognition for her performances in films screening outside her native Korea, such as Kim Ji-woon's A Bittersweet Life and the more recent I Saw the Devil, with the same director. He made his Hollywood debut in G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra as Storm Shadow.
