Ae Soon and Gwan Sik were born in Jeju, South Korea in the 1950s. Ae Soon is a rebellious and book-loving girl, but she is unable to attend school due to her family's poverty. Under this circumstance, she never gives up her dream of becoming a poet. She expresses her feelings freely without hiding anything. Gwan Sik is a sincere, diligent young man who does not talk so much. Gwan Sik only loves Ae Soon and respects her.
